New carseat guidelines.... I like!

"Under the new guidelines, issued today, NHTSA is advising parents and caregivers to keep children in each restraint type, including rear-facing, forward-facing and booster seats, for as long as possible before moving them up to the next type of seat."

When Gavin turned one, everyone was excited because then he could turn around in his carseat to forward facing. From what I had read, this wasn't happening because it was safer to keep them rear facing as long as possible and in a 5-point harness. We kept Gavin  rear facing until he was 1.5 years old, we would have kept him longer but he reached the maximum height limit for his seat rear facing. Even before he reached the limit, he looked cramped and was pretty much sitting indian style in his carseat but if we were to get in an accident I'd rather he have 2 broken legs than a broken neck : /

We plan to do the same with Jakob and Kaleb, yes it is more convenient and fun to see kids facing forward but I'd rather be safe and inconvenienced :-)

I am glad to see the AAP releasing these new guidelines, hopefully many parents will listen and keep their kids even safer!
